I do try to visit your blogs as often as possible too! I am about to add Roberta to my shop I created her last night. I think that she looks very retro. My husband sometimes travels for work and he visits op shops for me when he can. Recycling, repurposing, upcycling!

Hello, our power was out for most of the day yesterday, so I scrapped this page for
Nicole. I love anything vintage and now have a small collection of sheet music and old children's picture books! Most of these things were sitting on my desk, I began to clear it and ended up scrapping, so it is still a huge mess! Have a happy day, don't forget to enter my giveaway in the previous post! Leah

Snakes Alive!

Hello, I have only managed one card for Sandie's card drive so far.
Nothing new happening at our place. Our cat keeps bringing snakes to the door. This morning the kids all jumped into the car for school, I walked out of the front door after them and stepped over a snake, yikes, I hate them!!! When I got into the car I asked the boys if they had noticed it. Harry just said "no mum was it a biggy?" I think I'm looking forward to winter again! Enjoy your day, Leah

I love this!

Hello, my mum forwarded this on to me, I thought that I would share it. Still thinking of all of those poor Australians affected by the bush fires. There are lots of ways that you can help, I will post some of them here in my next post. Take care, Leah.

The History of 'APRONS'

I don't think our kids know what an apron is.

The principal use of Grandma's apron was to protect the dress underneath. Because she only had a few dresses, it was easier to wash aprons than dresses and they used less material, but along with that, it served as a potholder for removing hot pans from the oven.

It was wonderful for drying children's tears, and on occasion was even used for cleaning out dirty ears.

From the chicken coop, the apron was used for carrying eggs, fussy chicks, and sometimes half-hatched eggs to be finished in the warming oven.

When company came, those aprons were ideal hiding places for shy kids.

And when the weather was cold, grandma wrapped it around her arms.

Those big old aprons wiped many a perspiring brow, bent over the hot wood stove.

Chips and kindling wood were brought into the kitchen in that apron

From the garden, it carried all sorts of vegetables. After the peas had been shelled, it carried out the hulls.

In the fall, the apron was used to bring in apples that had fallen from the trees.

When unexpected company drove up the road, it was surprising how much furniture that old apron could dust in a matter of seconds.

When dinner was ready, Grandma walked out onto the porch, waved her apron, and the men knew it was time to come in from the fields to dinner.

It will be a long time before someone invents something that will replace that ' old-time apron' that served so many purposes.

Send this to those who would know (and love) the story about Grandma's aprons.

REMEMBER:

Grandma used to set her hot baked apple pies on the window sill to cool.

Her granddaughters set theirs on the window sill to thaw.

They would go crazy now trying to figure out how many germs were on that apron.

I don't think I ever caught anything from an apron.

Two new girls

I made 4 of these last night, 2 are on their way to New Zealand, the other 2 will go into my etsy shop when I take some better photos. While I was making these I was watching the devastating news about the bush fires here in Victoria, they have been horrific and so many homes and lives have been lost. Our thoughts are with all of those poor people. If you live in Australia, I really hope that you haven't been affected! Bye for now. Leah

This is the best photo I have of Jack's first day at school, for some reason, he has been pulling a cross eyed face in most of the pictures I take of him lately! Jack loves school which is great and Toby LOVES being the only boy at home. Thanks for visiting. Leah
